The History Department at SUNY Buffalo invites you to submit a paper to our tenth annual Plesur Conference:
DIFFERENT PATHS?: THE DEVELOPMENT OF GREAT BRITAIN, GERMANY AND THE WEST.
Keynote Speaker: VOLKER R. BERHAHN, Columbia University
This year’s conference is particularly special because it will honor four of our own retiring History Professors: Dr. Georg G. Iggers, Dr. William S. Allen, Dr. Norman Baker, and Dr. John F. Naylor.
This conference aims to bring together specialists of Great Britain, Germany, Europe and America to examine the similarities and differences of development in the modern era. Papers should be specific to one nation and not overtly comparative in nature. Paper topics may include, but are not limited to,
modernization,
industrialization,
nationalism,
colonialism,
political systems,
regional diversities,
race, gender roles, and
religious and cultural identities.
The conference will take place March 3, 2001, and the DEADLINE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF PAPERS OR ABSTRACTS IS JANUARY 15th 2001. Graduate students working on their dissertations or Master’s Thesis are especially encouraged to participate.
