Conference title: Abruzzesi in Our Midst

A one or two day symposium is planned for Fall 2001 on the topic of Abruzzesi contributions to North American society. The symposium will be an occasion to speak of our past immigrant collective experiences ans will highlight the accomplishments of individuals or specific groups. Its aims are to safeguard our regional identity by speaking about the socio-cultural richness of our Abruzzzese-North American heritage. It will be an occasion to study the people, the humble people, that created the communities that have built the North American character.

Suggested areas for contributions include: the construction (or non-construction) of an Abruzzese identity, literary representations of Abruzzo and Abruzzesi; Abruzzesi writers, poets, painters, sculptors; Abruzzesi professionals (who are they, what have they done).

The symposium will hopefully feature several high-profile invited guests.
