Call for papers
Persons interested in giving a paper should send a brief outline
(one A4 page) to the under-mentioned address by no later than 31
May 2001. The final paper must be received by 30 June 2000.
The broad topics are:
- The causes, course and consequences of warfare in Africa
- Africanmilitary systems: how African armies were raised;
strategy and tactics; the realities of life for the common
soldier; command and leadership; impact of technology
- The multifarious impact of warfare upon African economy
and society
- The implications for the development of state institutions
Attitudes towards war
- The Law of Armed Conflict in Africa
- Peacekeeping in Africa
- Private Military Companies
- Casestudies, biography, prosopography, historiography
Geographic, chronological and thematic panels and round tables
welcomed. A selection of papers will be published as a special
issue of Scientia Militaria.
