Proposals are invited for an academic conference, "Yiddish Language and Culture in Twentieth Century Eastern Europe," to be held at the Indiana University Bloomington campus on October 28-29, 2001. We invite proposals for papers on all aspects of Yiddish linguistics, literature, folklore, theater, music, press, education and other forms of Yiddish cultural, artistic, and intellectual expression. We are particularly interested in papers that explore the attitudes of Inter-war, Communist, and post-Communist states toward the Yiddish language, or that investigate the relationship between Yiddish culture and social or political reform in all periods of the Twentieth Century.
Paper submissions should include title, one-page abstract, and short curriculum vitae including contact information. The deadline for paper submissions is March 31, 2001. Submissions should be sent to Jeffrey Veidlinger at the address below.
