The Encyclopedia of New York State project is a partnership between Syracuse University Press and the Office of Cultural Education. Its offices are on the tenth floor of the Cultural Education Center. The project is supported by both public and private sources, including the State Legislature and corporate grants. The printed edition, with publication scheduled for 2002, will be a large one-volume book of approximately 1.6 million words in about 4,500 entries. An on-line edition will be published eighteen months after the printed edition.
Several entries in the area of business/industry; science and technology; environment; communications; (and other areas, too), still have not found a contributor. If you are interested in writing about the following, or know someone who might, please contact me. I am in the office on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Morning, and always reachable by e-mail. You can also search our website for unassigned entries, including by topic (click Advanced Search), at http://encyclopediaNYS.syr.edu
Deadlines are 3 months, generally, but longer for entries above 1500 words. Generally, we’d hope that people take several related entries.
The encyclopedia pays a modest honorarium of 10 cents/word, which can be applied towards purchasing one copy of the encyclopedia at the reduced price for contributors.
