The Pennsylvania Historical Association will hold its annual meeting in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on October 12-13, 2001 at the University of Pittsburg-Johnstown. The organizing theme for this year's meeting is "Pennsylvania as Utopia and Dystopia." From Penn's vision for his "holy experiment" to nineteenth-century industrialists and twentieth-century developers, Pennsylvanians have promoted ideals for the state's society. Competing interests, however, repeatedly tempered planners' dreams.
