CALL FOR PAPERS
21 April 2001 Annual Conference on:
INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES TO HISTORY AND FILM:
Lawrence of Arabia (Lean, 1962)
The motivation behind this conference is the belief that films are valid historical texts upon which multiple, fluid and often contradictory discourses take place. This year the conference focuses on issues arising from critical reassessments of Sir David Lean’s film, Lawrence of Arabia (1962). The conference will attempt to examine some of the film’s discourses within the following four pairings.
- Imperialism and the Middle East
- The First World War and the Middle East
- Gender and Post-Colonial Studies
- Media and Film Criticism
The Film Conference committee of the Delta Chi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta invites you to submit proposals for panels and papers for its first conference on Interdisciplinary Approaches to History and Film.
We welcome proposals from all scholars, whatever their field or discipline. One need not be a member of Phi Alpha Theta to participate. We encourage cross-disciplinary paper and panel proposals. We especially invite proposals from Ph.D. candidates and recently graduated doctorates.
Proposals for single papers that fall into the 4 categories above are encouraged. Additional panel proposals will receive strong consideration.
Proposals are to include Title of panel, 200 word abstract, full name of participants, institutional affiliations (if any), mailing, email and webpage addresses, phone numbers. Please include a curriculum vita. Full panel proposals must also include an abstract for the panel, full names and addresses of all participants including the moderator and commentator.
