CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Women and Guns in America, 1860-present
Deadline: Send bio and abstract by November 1
Proposals are solicited for chapters for an anthology about women gun owners in the US. This cross-disciplinary anthology will focus on the issues and controversies surrounding women gun owners both past and present. Comprised of past articles, stories and illustrations along with new essays and images, this anthology will examine the ramifications of female gun ownership in this country.
I'm looking for writers who can bring their own background and interests to a topic that tends to be addressed narrowly--that is, as it relates to the National Rifle Association or gun rights. Feminism, power, race, sexuality and class are generally left out of the conversation.
The University of Minnesota has expressed interest in this book and I hope to have a complete proposal by December. The book will take at least another year and a half to complete.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
-firearms for women
-girls and guns
