The Academy of American Franciscan History and the Franciscan School of
Theology are hosting a conference on "The Franciscan Family in the New
World, 1524-2000." The conference will take place November 3-4, in Oakland,
CA, in historic Jack London Square at the Waterfront Plaza Hotel.. This
conference provides an opportunity to bring together scholars from all
over the world who study the Franciscan Family in the New World. Over 25
papers and 4 plenary sessions are scheduled. The conference is organized
into several sections. These deal with the activities of Franciscans,
Capuchins, and others, in Latin America, the United States and Canada, as
well as sessions on early missionaries in Latin America and Canada, the
immigrant church in the United States and Canada, and the Franciscan Family
in the 20th century.
