Washington Places is a web site which presents an archive of information about urban places in the District of Columbia including avenues, streets, squares and parks. There is an evolutionary approach to each place depicting historical origins, present conditions and future prospects. The intent of the web site is to analyze the form of each place as a physical context for urban life. Thus far the web site presents analyses of Massachusetts Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixteenth Street. The Mall will be developed in Spring 2001. The web site is the work of students at the University of Virginia School of Architecture under the direction of Michael Bednar.
