The Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association is calling for
papers on the Civil War and Reconstruction for its national meeting at the
Marriott Hotel (Market Street) in Philadelphia, April 11-14, 2001 (Wednesday
through Saturday). Paper topics may examine any aspect of how the Civil War
and Reconstruction have influenced, or been portrayed in, American popular
culture.
Past presentations have included such diverse topics as the Civil
War and Reconstruction in literature, film, and song; changes and developments
in gender issues; and veterans' attempts to remember the war and their role in
it. Sessions run for ninety minutes, and each presenter receives between
fifteen to twenty minutes, depending on whether there are three or four
papers. A VCR and slide projector will be provided for each conference room.
Graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals and panel proposals are
accepted. Please send a 250-word abstract to Mr. Larry Kreiser at the address below. Deadline for submissions is September 22. For more
