The Oral History Association is pleased to announce that it
will be offering partial scholarship assistance to a select number of
individuals planning to attend this year's annual meeting, to be held
October 11-15, in Durham, North Carolina. Individual grants, not to
exceed $500 per person, can be used to help cover expenses of attending
the meeting, including workshop fees, meals, hotels and transportation
expenses. Successful applicants will also have their meeting
registration fees waived. Participants in the meeting's program are not
eligible. The theme of this year's meeting is "At the Crossroads
Transforming Community Locally and Globally." Detailed program
information is available at the web site listed below.
The scholarships are designed for students, community historians, and members of other groups that have been under-represented at previous meetings, including racial and ethnic minorities, gays and lesbians, working-class individuals and people with disabilities. Potential Applicants should submit a brief form,
available at http://www.dickinson.edu/organizations/oha/scholarship2000.html
which details their interest in oral history, their financial need, and
the advantages that meeting attendance would offer their organization or group. The form must be mailed. The postmark deadline is July 31, 2000. Those with further questions should contact Alva Moore Stevenson at the email address below or Nilsa Olivero at PURAFE1@aol.com
