Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) on the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology
A conference by and for graduate students interested in the history of science
Carnegie Mellon University, July 28-30, 2000
Pittsburgh, PA
We in the History Department at Carnegie Mellon University invite you to
join us at a conference of graduate students interested in the history
of science, medicine, and technology. We wish to foster collegial
interaction among graduate students in the history of science in this
region, and provide a forum for constructive and supportive critique of
each other's work.
We will host two types of papers, paper presentations lasting 20 to 25
minutes, and "working sessions" lasting one hour. For working sessions,
each individual author will give a 20 to 30 minute presentation. These
will be based on future articles or dissertation chapters and need to be
pre-circulated. After the main presentation, the remainder of the
working session's time will be devoted to discussion.
To encourage both social and scholarly interaction, MAC will open on
Friday, July 28 with a welcoming reception for attendees. We have
scheduled Saturday, July 29, and the morning of Sunday, July 30, for the
paper presentations and working sessions.
Following the precedent established by the 1998 MAC organizers at Johns
Hopkins University, we will strive to make this conference as productive
and as inexpensive as possible for all attendees. We will provide
low-cost accommodations and meals for all participants during the
conference.
REQUIREMENTS: Abstracts of no more than 300 words (for a paper
presentation) or no more than 500 words (for a working session) may be
