The European University Institute in Florence (Italy) will be holding a summer school from 18 to 24 September 2000 entitled "The Balkans: Territories and Identities" directed by Jacques Rupnik.
Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the organizers.
The summer school is open to doctoral students regardless of age or nationality.
Candidates should have a sound knowledge of English and/or French.
SCHEDULE FOR THE SUMMER SCHOOL
Daily methodology presentations on the different disciplinary fields, given by the instructors staffing the doctoral summer school on the basis of their research.
Five daily workshops directed by a tutor. The students will be divided into five groups depending on their area of research.
- History, Historiography and the politics of identity.
- Religion, national identity and the legitimization of policies.
- Issues of demography in the Balkans.
- The transition to democracy and the construction of homogeneous nation States (compatibility or contradiction).
- Changes in the regional and international environment.
