An interdisciplinary conference, "The United States and the Middle East: A Cultural Encounter," exploring various dimensions of cultural relations between the Middle East and the United States will be held at the Yale University on December 8th and 9th, 2000.
The conference aims to assess:
- a) the key elements defining US-Middle Eastern cultural relations;
- b) the significance of Middle East's cultural heritage for the United States;
- c) prevailing presence of American culture in the Middle East;
- d) the importance of perceptions (and misperceptions) in shaping overall US-Middle Eastern relations.
Issues such as educational institutions, school curriculums, missionary activities, archaeology, tourism, museums and exhibitions, literature, and films will be the focus of the conference. Travel subsidy and accommodation will be provided.
