The North American Conference on British Studies announces the publication of the "NACBS Forum: The Making of the Working British Historian" on its website: http://www.nacbs.org.
In this Forum, papers on the dilemmas facing graduate students and recent Ph.D.s have been collected for wider distribution. Although these papers are devoted to conditions in the field of British studies, they address broader issues that will be of interest to scholars in related fields in history and the humanities more generally.
The Forum is introduced by Angela Wollacott (Case Western Reserve
University), and includes the following papers:
- George Behlmer (University of Washington), "Getting (and Surviving) the Job Interview"
- Margot Finn (Journal of British Studies), "Publish, Don't Perish"
- Norris Pope (Stanford University Press), "Publishing a First Book"
- Paul Deslandes (Texas Tech University), "Holding Patterns: Postdoctoral Survival Strategies for British Historians"
In addition, visitors to the NACBS Forum may add their views concerning
the issues raised in the Forum by using a form for comments.
"The Making of the Working British Historian" may be reached by clicking on the Forum banner on the NACBS homepage: http://www.nacbs.org
Or it may be reached directly: http://www.nacbs.org/forum/
The NACBS has created the "Forum" as a site for online discussions of
important professional issues in the field of British studies.
Suggestions of topics for future forums are also most welcome.
