Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Architecture - Call for Contributors
Call for Contributors
With important topics awaiting qualified writers from several disciplines, project editor R. Stephen Sennott invites your contribution to the Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Architecture. Underway for the past eighteen months, this three-volume work is to be published by the Chicago-London academic reference publisher Fitzroy Dearborn in the spring of 2001. Ongoing participation is invited as this project enters its near-final stages of writing, editing, and production. If you are a previous recipient of this call for contributors, please note that the unassigned list has undergone several changes, opening up new topics for consideration. The editor will continue to make assignments as late as early fall 2000.
The past century presented a wide range of architectural developments, shifts in technology and materials, and many significant trends inside and outside modernism. In its international coverage, this encyclopedia seeks to provide readers with a distinct approach to the accomplishments and complexities of twentieth-century architecture’s theory, design, and practice. Critical essays will examine and evaluate not only famous architects, prominent firms, and their influential buildings, but also the building types, materials, technologies, and influential planning trends that characterize the twentieth century’s architecture in developing and developed cities, countries, and regions. The editor has so far commissioned hundreds of qualified authors from around the world, including architectural historians, architects, engineers, preservationists, biographers, critics, and independent scholars.
The Editor continues to seek qualified authors for unassigned entries. If you would like to consider contributing one or more articles to the encyclopedia, please visit the project’s website (http://www.fitzroydearborn.com/chicago, then choose the link to the Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Architecture). The website contains a detailed description of the encyclopedia’s aims, a list of advisory board members, a complete list of entries to be included in the encyclopedia, a list of unassigned entries, and sample articles. The website also contains a Contributor Information and Essay Request Form, which you may fill out and submit on-line if the project interests you. Please indicate your selections in ranked order, as requested. If you do not have internet access but would like to learn more about the project, you may contact commissioning editor Chris Hudson (at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312-587-0131 x229) for more information.
Finally, please feel free to distribute this invitation and call for authors to colleagues and advanced graduate students working in twentieth-century architecture. All qualified persons are encouraged to visit the website.
