Join the "New Americans" Online Learning Adventure: April 10-30,
2000.
Five immigrants are the subject of an upcoming PBS documentary
called "The New Americans", brought to you by the makers of "Hoop
Dreams". And your students will be able to take an intimate look
into the lives of two of those immigrants -- while the documentary
is being filmed -- through a classroom adventure from PBS Online.
Log onto http://pbs.org/newamericans/ between April 10-30, 2000 and
experience one immigrant's visit back to Nigeria and another's
arrival in the United States for baseball's Spring Training. Here's
a snapshot of what you'll find online:
- Live dispatches from the field;
- Real-time Q&A with Web correspondents on location;
- Lesson plans - tied to national and state standards -- focusing
on historical and current immigration issues;
- Interactive features for students including genealogy tools, an
interactive immigration timeline, U.S. Citizenship Test quizzes,
bulletin board discussions with other teachers and students;
- Ideas for ways to study immigration in your community, and
more!
Immigration in America is an important subject for your students,
and the "New Americans" online adventure is a wonderful way to
introduce -- or supplement -- this topic in your classroom.
