Call for Submissions: The American Civil War
For its Fall 2000 issue, Proteus: A Journal of Ideas seeks essays and scholarly articles that examine the American Civil War, its origins, and its legacies. In keeping with recent scholarly developments, the journal encourages submissions that study the American Civil War and its long-term significance from a wide range of perspectives. Articles may focus on local communities or the nation at large, the home front or the battlefront, political or military struggles, or broader social or cultural developments. In addition to articles from a wide range of disciplines, the journal also encourages the submission of artwork, photographs, and poetry.
Deadline (postmark) for manuscripts is April 7, 2000.
Publication date is October 2000.
Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, and should follow the Chicago text format when possible. (For style sheet, send request with a self-addressed, stamped business envelope to the address below.) Articles may not exceed 5,000 words; 3,000 words or fewer are preferred.

Include a self-addressed, stamped 9X12 envelope if you would like the manuscript returned. Manuscripts chosen for publication must be transferred to a 3 1/2 inch computer disk and edited to Chicago Text format.
