LWSIAS exists to enable scholars and students alike to explore the new dimensions of 'reading' and 'viewing' and their many implications for the way in which knowledge is being dealt with in the virtual world which is now upon us. Perhaps the commonwealth of scholarship which might emerge will be unfettered by the boundaries and straitjackets which arguably disfigure communications. Perhaps the impact of digital processes on the world of learning and communications will be as great as that of the printing press. At the moment we do not know. No doubt new boundaries will emerge. Set on an island in tranquil Lake of the Woods, surrounded by forests and lakes but fully accessible to electronic communication, scholars from all branches of knowledge can examine and explore the new avenues.
LWSIAS is an atelier, akin to those Renaissance printers' workshops which transformed learning. LWSIAS aims to provide an 'all inclusive' program of courses and activities that enable a student to explore the limits of the digital world. Through the provision of tailor-made accommodation and limousine services to and from local airports, through fishing and museum trips we aim to provide a positive environment where you the student feels able to concentrate on the courses. Enjoyment is coupled with intellectual challenge.
