This conference brings together novelists and critics to explore the history, current state, and future prospects of the postwar novel in Britain. The participants are James Wood, Christopher Hitchens, Michael Wood, Christopher Ricks, Ian McEwan, Wendy Lesser, Elaine Showalter, Hilary Mantel, John Sutherland, and Lindsay Duguid.
The conference will open with a lecture by Martin Amis on April 27, 2000, at 7:30 p.m. He will read from his new book, "Experience." The other sessions will take place on April 28 and 29. The lecture on the 27th is free, but attendance at the Friday and Saturday sessions are by reservation only. There is a $20.00 conference registration fee and additional charges for optional buffet lunches and a dinner on Friday evening.
