This public conference, held in conjunction with the Huntington Library's exhibit on the California Gold Rush, will explore the consequences of the Gold Rush on California. Speakers are Janet Fireman (Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County), Gary Kurutz (California State Library), Paul Karlstrom (Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution), and J.S. Holliday (author, "Rush for Riches: Gold Fever and the Making of California").
