Intercultural Communication Conference - Perspectives on Language and Culture, 1-2 June 2000

PURPOSE OF CONFERENCE:
In the light of the rapid progression of globalization intercultural communication is fast becoming one of the most burning cultural issues of our time. The main objective of the Intercultural Communication Conference will be to encourage interdisciplinary debate on issues relevant to intercultural communication in South Africa and in other parts of the world. The Conference will provide an opportunity to scholars to familiarize themselves with some of the latest developments in the field of intercultural communication.

CONFERENCE WORKSHOP:
An integral part of this conference will be an extended workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of staff in tertiary institutions to develop programmes for teaching and learning in the field of Intercultural Communication.
REGISTRATION COSTS: R500 (US$ 80) including all meals on the 1 and 2 June and dinner on 31 May 2000.
VENUE: Conference room of the Mtunzini Chalets, Mtunzini, a coastal resort situated on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, approximately 140 km north of Durban. Mtunzini is within easy reach of some of the most exquisite game reserves in KwaZulu-Natal. Furthermore, the Mtunzini Chalets are situated in a strip of unspoilt coastal forest.
ACCOMMODATION:
Participants will be responsible for their own accommodation arrangements. The organizers recommend Mtunzini Chalets (approximately R173 / US$ 28 per person per night, tel. 035-3401953) where a block booking has been made for the conference. Please mention the University of Zululand upon making your booking. Mtunzini Chalets, situated within walking distance of the Mtunzini beaches, will also be the venue where the conference will be held. The Mtunzini town board (tel. 035 - 3401421) can also be contacted for more information on accommodation elsewhere in Mtunzini and in the surrounding areas.
TRANSPORT:
A conference bus will leave from Durban International Airport for Mtunzini on 31 May before the start of the conference and will depart for the Airport at the end of the conference on 2 June. A nominal rate will be charged to cover transport costs. Further arrangements will be announced.
