Authors are being sought to contribute to a new reference book that will provide the historical context to contemporary events. The series, History Behind the Headlines, will provide the historical causes and issues associated with major international conflicts of today. A wide range of political, economic, ethnic, and religious conflicts will be included, such as the Chechen rebellion against Russia; the civil war in Sudan; the East Timor vote for independence; the conflict between Cuba and the U.S.; France's conflict with the European Union and Britain regarding importing beef; opposition to the World Trade Organiation; and the controversy regarding the deforestation of the Amazon.
The book will provide the historical context the the event that students and the general public are reading about in today's papers. Each Entry will provide an overview of the current situation, a review of the history, information on individuals and organizations of influence, etc.
