The University of Stellenbosch will be hosting the South Africa / Denmark History for Democracy Symposium from 23 February to 1 March 2000. The symposium will bring together historians, history educators and heritage workers. Themes to be discussed and debated include:
- Youth and History
- Globalisation and history
- Democracy and the Far Right in Europe
- History and democracy
- History and nation building
- Democracy in historiography
- The future of history at universities and schools
- Youth and world history
- Teaching about Africa and the World in school and university
Participants from Denmark include the Danish Education Ministry, University of Copenhagen and the Danish Historical Association. The symposium will be held at various venues: University of Stellenbosch, Robben Island Museum, District Museum and The Slave Lodge.
