The Africa Institute of South Africa on its 40th anniversary is organizing a two-day conference in May/June 2000 around the theme:
"A United States of Africa?" The theme of the conference is a response to a call made at the extra-ordinary OAU meeting in Libya in September 1999. The aim is to tackle socio-political, economic, youth, environmental, health and gender challenges relating to the political unity of the continent.
We invite interested scholars to submit papers on the following themes:
- African Political Unity in Historical Perspective
- Africa in the New Millennium: Challenges
- African Parliament
- Peace, Security and African Political Unity
- South Africa in Africa
- Globalisation and the African Renaissance
- African Foreign Policies
- Democratisation and African Political Unity
- Civil Society and African Political Unity
- Globalisation and Regional Integration
- Towards an African Economic Community
- The Future of SADC and the OAU
All abstracts should reach the Africa Institute by the 20th of January 2000. Please fax or e-mail your abstract to Ms Thuli Nhlapo at the address below.
The organizers will cover costs for a limited number of presenters from the continent and other regions of the South.
