Chronic Aporias at the End of the Millenium:
An Investigation of Beginnings and Endings
University of Virginia
April 7-9, 2000
The genesis and closure of texts are not only taken for granted, they are the boundaries which are normally indispensible for the human consumption of cultural products. This conference seeks to investigate various aspects of beginnings and endings - narrative theory's take on textual finitude; thematic treatments of these phenomenon (e.g. evidence of apocalyptic thought); and the body's imposition of mortality upon aesthetic forms. In order to provide some coherence, however, this conference will be taking place under the rubric of German Studies - mainly focusing on modern German literature and modern German history. Deadline: January 31, 2000.
