The Hong Kong Culture and Society Programme at the University of Hong Kong is inviting papers for its Third International Post-graduate Symposium on Hong Kong Culture and Society, to be held at the University of Hong Kong, April 18-19, 2000. The symposium is inter-disciplinary, and this year, the main themes include:
- History
- City, Space and Identity
- Popular Culture and Public Discourse
- Narrative, Representation and Culture
- Sex, Body and Gender
- Socio-economic and Political Changes
- Information Technology and others
AIMS:
The IPS aims to provide a chance for postgraduate students (Ph.D. and Master students) from different universities in different parts of the world to present and discuss their research work on Hong Kong Studies. We hope to widen the horizon of post-graduate students by providing a forum for them to meet and interact with other postgraduates and established scholars from local and overseas institutions. To make the meeting more rewarding, distinguished and well-established specialists on different aspects of Hong Kong Studies will be invited to share their ideas and comment on the students' research and raise questions for further consideration.
Paper Submission Deadline: 31 January 2000
The HKCSP invites proposals for papers from current postgraduate students and recent graduates in any discipline from any recognized tertiary institute in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and overseas. Interested students should send a one-page abstract with a brief CV and contact information to the address below by 31 January 2000. Limited funding for travelling expenses and accommodation is available on a selective basis.
