The Savannah River Site Historical Coalition, composed of the South
Carolina Historical Society, the University of South Carolina at Aiken,
Augusta State University, and local historical societies in South Carolina
and Georgia, is issuing a call for papers for an academic symposium
sponsored by the Department of Energy, and entitled "The Savannah River
Site at Fifty: A Historical Tribute to Dr. Ruth Patrick."
The symposium will be held in Aiken, SC and Augusta, GA on October 6-7,
2000, and will feature papers from participants exploring all historical
aspects of the Savannah River Site, including the site's cultural,
diplomatic, ecological, economic, environmental, political, public, social,
and technological impact on the region and nation.
All those interested in presenting papers, or serving as session chairs or
commentators should send a proposal not to exceed 600 words with a copy of
their vita to the address below no later than December 15, 1999. Those
wishing to organize sessions should include vitas from each participant. A
planning committee will evaluate each proposal and notify participants by
