The Australian Museum is currently developing an exhibition entitled Body Art which explores and presents various aspects of body adornment including painting, tattooing and scarification. The exhibition will be looking at both modern and traditional cultural practices. In respect of this we are currently sourcing images of scarification practices of West African tribes, in particular the Tiv (Nigeria), Ga'anda (Nigeria), Aowin (Ghana), Baule (Ivory Coast) and Bangwa (Cameroon). We wish to obtain good current or historical images showing traditional scarification practices, and also obtain permission to reproduce these in the exhibition which will travel to other centres. If any reader of this announcement can assist, either by directing us to a specific source, or has access to images, we would be most interested in hearing from you.
