Wolf Lepenies is Rector of the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin and Professor of Sociology at the Free University of Berlin. He is a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has written, and lectures widely, on a range of subjects including the history and the sociology of the sciences, literary criticism, and European intellectual life. His many books include Between Literature and Science: The Rise of Sociology and Melancholy and Society.
