An American 20th Century? will explore and evaluate the role of America in the 20th Century in a conference held over two days, at the University of Maryland and at the National Archives II in College Park, Md. Speakers will explore American ascendancy, the impact of science on American culture, issues of Americanization, changing social and sexual identities, American literature and letters, film and literature, and historical interpretations. Speakers include Herman Beavers, Paul Boyer, George Chauncey, Evelyn Fox Keller, David Frum, Victoria de Grazia, Gary Gerstle, Claudia Goldin, Joan Hoff, Daniel Kevles, Jackson Lears, Charles Maier, Peter Novick, Martin J. Sklar, Paul Smith, Spencer Weart, and Olivier Zunz.
