The University of Kentucky's 2000 Bluegrass Symposium invites paper proposals from graduate and advanced undergraduate students for its eighth annual conference. This year's focus will be on ALL aspects of the creation of culture. The Program Committee welcomes papers that apply cultural analysis to American and world history, and is especially interested in papers on Kentucky history. The Committee will also gladly consider papers not directly related to the stated theme of the conference. Undergraduate student panels will be held on Friday afternoon, March 3, and graduate student panels will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5.
University of Minnesota Professor David Roediger will deliver the keynote address on Friday evening, March 3, and will conduct a roundtable discussion with graduate students on Saturday morning, March 4. Professor Roediger is the author of several noted books, including The Wages of Whiteness.
Those interested in presenting papers should submit a one-page abstract postmarked no later than January 7, 2000. Presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in length.
