The Mid America American Studies Association (MAASA) will be holding its annual meeting on April 7-8, 2000 in Kansas City, Missouri on the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus. The theme is "American Studies 2000: Building Bridges into the New Millennium." The program committee is especially interested in papers and panels that attempt to find common ground among disciplines and theoretical approaches to cureent and future issues in American Studies. Can scholars trained in the social sciences and cultural theorists approach a common subject and benefit from that collaboration? What advances in technology will prove to be the most effective in bridging gaps between past and future academic research? How can we build bridges to high school and community college teachers? In what ways can American Studies connect with people outside the academy? What are the prospects for American Studies in the next millennium? Proposals (five copies) should include a one page summary and a brief curriculum vitae for each of the presenters, commentators, and session chairs. Please submit proposals or send inquiries to the address below:
Proposals are due Jan. 3, 2000.
