The German Historical Institute Washington D.C. will host a workshop on
"Gender History in Transatlantic Comparison: Politics of Maternity,
Women's Employment, and Social Change in 20th Century Germany and the
US" on December 3-4, 1999.
The workshop aims at comparing 20th century gender developments in
Germany and the United States in order to explain how different
societies reproduced hierarchies of gender, ethnicity, and race in
the quickly changing social and economic conditions of the twentieth
century. Scholars working in this field are invited to submit their
proposals to the GHI no later than October 10, 1999
