Workshop/panel: Is European Style Democracy the Only Way?

The purpose of this workshop/panel is to explore if European style democracy is the only possibility to enable modernization and entrance into the world market places. The workshop envisons being a forum where other alternatives can be explored.
Some of the topics that could be explored:
- Can theocractic governemnts, such as those in the Islamic world, be viable players in the 21st century?
- Can a theocracy represent a country on the global political scene?
- Is it necessary to have authoritarian governments in Africa to creat stability?
- Have the Asian Tigers and Japan out westernized the West/ Will they ever actually be democractic governments
- What is the outlook for the future for non-Western countries in relation to the West?
Those who submit papers should be schoalars of Non-Western countries. They should be able to present alternative viewpoints and methods which wiould enable non-Western societies to move from underdeveloped status to modern developed nations. Geographic regions that should be representedare : the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America
