The conference is held in cooperation of the Institute of Universal History, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) (Prof. Jutta Scherrer; Prof. Wladimir Berelowitsch) and Zentrum fuer Vergleichende Geschichte Europas (Berlin)(Prof. Manfred Hildermeier). It focuses on the comparative history of the phenomenon of "intelligent/intellectual" in Russia compared with Western Europe. The historical typology of the "educated man", the situation in the historiography, the roots of Russian and European intellectuals before the 19th century; the factors of formation (socialization) of the intellelctual (the role of the state, the family, the woman etc.) and of his self-identification are the most important topics which have to be discussed.
We try to get contacts and to cooperate with the historians of the Russian history in Russia himself (Moscow State University, Institute of Slavic Studies etc. but also from peripheric universities like Iwanowo or Tambow), with the "universal" (vseobshij) historians from our Institute and with collegues from Germany and France. The papers have to be published in Russian and French.
We're interested in cooperation with other historians working on the subject of the history of the intellectuals in Russia and Europe.
