The 5th Annual California Indian Storytelling Symposium & Festival

On Saturday and Sunday, November 6-7, 1999, the California Indian
Storytelling Association (CISA), in cooperation with Ohlone College, is
presenting at the 5th annual California Indian Storytelling Symposium and
Festival from 9 am to 5 pm at Ohlone College in Fremont, California.
Saturday will be a symposium day when Native scholars will present
workshops, panel discussions, and presentations of written papers on
California Indian oral traditions, folklore and storytelling. Join us
Saturday evening for a night of California Indian story and song. Sunday
will be a day of storytelling performances by featured Native storytellers
representing California tribes from San Diego to Santa Barbara to Crescent
City near the far northern California state border. The California Indian
Storytelling Symposium and Festival is presented in cooperation with Ohlone
College and is funded in part by the California Council for the Humanities.
Ohlone College, named for the local Native people, is located on an oak
covered hillside in the historic Mission San Jose area of Fremont, CA. The
symposium and festival will be held in the state-of-the-art Smith Community
Theater Center (home of the Fremont Philharmonic Orchestra). The Saturday
symposium and workshops are recommended for adults and teens, ages 15 and
up. The Sunday storytelling concerts are recommended for adults and children
ages 8 and up.
