The Harpweaver publishes the creative work of emerging and established artists and writers. The journal is now requesting poetry, fiction, short dramas, personal essays, photography, and visual arts for our Autumn 2000 issue. The editors encourage work that is innovative, challenging, and representative of current trends and issues in contemporary literature and art.
Typed manuscripts must be double-spaced and under 5,000 words, with pages clipped, not stapled. Poetry may be single spaced. Material sent for consideration must be unpublished work. The author's name should not appear on the work, but a brief biography, postal address, email address and telephone number should accompany the submission in the form of a cover letter. For a reply, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope. Submissions from outside of Canada must include International Reply Coupons for reply. All manuscripts will be recycled unless explicitly requested to return with the appropriate postage included.
Visual artists must submit original artwork for consideration. Quality 8in.-by-10 in. black-and-white photographic documentation is also acceptable. Slides will be accepted if accompanied by complete information about the work they present. Once selected, the artwork will be photographed for reproduction. Please send your submission, appropriately packaged, with a self-addressed stamped envelope to the editor. Also include a brief biographical statement that characterizes both your work and your achievements or professional status. Please include postal and email addresses and a phone number.
A modest honorarium is paid for all published work, which will also be considered for the following Harpweaver prizes:
$75 Eleanor Abram Prize for Fiction
$50 Canadian Authors Association Prize for Poetry
$50 Brinkman Travel Prize for Photography
$50 Dr. Alan Marcus Prize for Visual Art
