The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, National Park Service,
announces an international conference, FREDERICK DOUGLASS: AT HOME AND
ABROAD, at the Department of Interior Auditorium at 18th & C Streets,
N.W., Washington, D.C., September 9 and 10, 1999, from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. On September 11, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site will
host a special tour of Douglass' last residence, Cedar Hill.
Scholars from Europe and North America will speak on Frederick
Douglass' international significance. Friends from many countries
enriched his thinking and supported his stands on abolition of slavery
and women's rights. There will be receptions on the evenings of
September 9 and 10. Attendance to the conference is free and open to
