The Massachusetts Historical Society invites proposals for
"Henry Adams and the Need to Know," a conference to take place in Boston on May 18-19, 2001.
The program will consider two related issues: the inquiring mind of Henry Adams, a man with a "need to know" about himself and the world around him, and also the "need" of Adams biographers, fascinated by their subject, to come to know him. Proposals (with CV's) are due on October 15, 1999. The conference organizing committee will notify those making proposals in January 2000. Completed papers will be due on March 15, 2001; all papers will circulate in advance to everyone planning to attend the program.
