Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg
Conference Dates: April 17, 1999
Proposals are invited for the conference of the Middle Atlantic Chapter of
the American Studies Association scheduled for April 17, 1999 at Penn
State Harrisburg, centrally located in the Middle Atlantic region, the
Capital of Pennsylvania, and home to one of the largest graduate programs
in American Studies in the United States. The conference theme is broadly
defined as "American Studies for the New Millenium." The organizers
encourage sessions/panels/papers on current and future
challenges/opportunities for the interdisciplinary study of the United
States.
The organizers are particularly interested in facilitating
interactive sessions and panel discussions of academic-public connections
of American Studies in media (the impact of the History Channel, for
instance), museums and agencies (impact of historical/cultural tourism),
universities (changing roles of American Studies in the curriculum), and
computers (the global Internet community). Discussions that hinge on the
Middle Atlantic Region and expand participation in American Studies to
public and professional participation are especially welcomed. The
organizing committee welcomes one to three page proposals by December 1,
1998. Send to Simon Bronner, American Studies Program, Penn State
Harrisburg, 777 West Harrisburg Pike, Middletown, PA 17057-4898.
