The theme is ENVISIONING FUTURES.
Plenary speakers are:
Peter Burke, Ludmilla Jordanova, and Christie Davies,
and panel participants will include:
Martin Daunton, Lyndal Roper, Keith Wrightson, and June Purvis.
Proposals for papers, together with a title and a summary of one or two
paragraphs, should be sent to Mrs Linda Persson, Centre for Social History,
Furness College, Lancaster University, Bailrigg, Lancaster LA1 4YG, or by email
to L.Persson@lancaster.ac.uk
- to arrive by 1 June 1999.
Topic areas for consideration might include prophecy, millenarianism,
astrology, utopias, town planning, scientific forecasting, political
projections, cultural projects (re gender, race, etc.) etc. - in relation to
any period, society, or culture.
Presentations will normally last 20 minutes followed by discussion. Proposals
for panels comprising a chair and three papers on a linked subject or period or
culture will be particularly welcome, as will proposals for papers from
post-graduate students.
