The History and Media Committee of the History Department of University
of Albany, SUNY http://www.albany.edu/history/ has hosted a virtual
conference session: Writing History/Writing Fiction. This venture is
an experiment in form that explores one way historians can use new
technologies to communicate ideas beyond the scholarly journal or
academic conference. Four historians (Allen Ballard, Steven A. Leibo,
Reid Mitchell, and William Rainbolt) who write both history and fiction
share short essays on writing fiction and history, excerpts from their
work, and their subsequent "discussion." The papers and the exchange
they spawned, are the core of this site. In addition the site features
a guest essay by noted historical novelist, Thomas Mallon, author of
"Henry & Clara" and "Dewey Defeats Truman." We invite "browsers" to
comment on the topic or the form. To learn more about Writing
