Michael Innis-Jiménez
Candidate Statement
I first found H-Net as a graduate student in the mid-1990s and have been an active member and participant of H-Net ever since. I was on the H-Grad advisory board while a graduate student and have been a list editor for H-LatAm since 1997.
When I first ran for a seat on the H-Net Council in 2002, I was a graduate student concerned about the perceived lack of communication between the H-Net staff in East Lansing, elected leadership, and editors scattered throughout the globe. Although H-Net has come a long way since then, we must continue to develop ways to encourage editor input and to streamline communication. I believe I can help with this process.
H-Net is a young organization that plays an important role in the day- to-day lives of many scholars. Those in the organization continue to develop ways to support scholars and create scholarly communities through the controlled growth of lists, the development of web-based resources, and the training of educators. Also, The H-Net Job Guide has been the go-to place for graduate students and others on the job market.
Our volunteer editors are the backbone of this organization and make H- Net the resource it is for many of us. Those in East Lansing get it. So do the elected leadership. As H-Net continues to mature and develop new programs and improves the delivery of current resources, communication remains the key to keeping H-Net successful. H-Net counts on editor's ideas and energy. As a member of the Council, I will continue to look for ways to expand responsibly H-Net's scholarly contribution. I will also seek to develop editor's opportunities for involvement in the larger process of guiding the organization.
Sincerely,
Michael Innis-Jiménez
