Dear H-Net Colleagues:
I am writing to accept Gus Seligmann's nomination of my candidacy to the H-Net Council. I have been with H-Net since being asked to help co-edit H-Teach almost a decade ago. It has been a great avenue for both professional growth and professional networking.
As H-Net has grown to serve even more diverse audiences, the role of the Council has become even more important and, if elected, I would take that position very seriously. I have participated in numerous H-Net activities at professional meetings and have considered H-Net central to my professional life from the beginning. While I have not served on the council before, I believe that my service to H-Teach has demonstrated my dedication to the fundamental ideals of H-Net.
As other candidates have mentioned, new challenges and opportunities face H-Net each year and each challenge and opportunity must be carefully weighed and evaluated so that the final decision serves the best interests of H-Net as a professional organizations as well as its constituents. Maintaining the numerous vital services offered by H-Net in the most cost-effective manner underlines the mission of the organization as it reaches around the world the connect teachers of the humanities and scholars of the humanities as many of us believe that those two often distinctively different areas of interest are, in fact, inextricably intertwined. And that includes teachers and scholars of all levels that are interested in the humanities and their further study and teaching.
