I accept the nomination for a seat on H-Net Council. I have been a subscriber to H-Net since its founding and Daniel Murphree and myself founded and continue to edit the list-serv H-Florida. I serve as list editor, review editor and web editor. Additionally, I have organized, along with my co-founder, receptions and conference panels to link H-Florida subscribers together and create a getter sense of community outside the virtual world of H-Net.
Currently we are engaging in a month long symposium on the direction of Florida history. This symposium will be followed by a round-table at the Southern Historical Association Conference in November and finally in the Spring the symposium participant's will have articles published in the Florida Historical Quarterly in a special issue devoted to the symposium topic of Florida's Global Past.
From the beginning we envisioned H-Florida as medium for junior scholars and graduate students in Florida history to gain important professional development and academic enrichment. We believe we have succeeded in those goals.
If I am elected to H-Net council I think I bring a background, not only as a list editor, review editor and web editor, but also as some one who organized a list outside the virtual environment into a vibrant academic community.
