We are excited to announce the details of a collaborative AHRC-funded PhD entitled ‘Exploring the Importance of Provenance in Oral History Collections’. The project will be jointly supervised by the British Library Oral History team and the Department of Information Studies at UCL.

Interesting discussion. Learned a few things today in our Oral History Peer Mentoring discussion about Oral History and AI.
Essentially, all online automated transcription services are potentially using transcripts to teach A.I., which, depending on the subject matter of your oral histories, may pose an ethical and/or security risk. We learned that Whisper can be downloaded onto your computer and used to transcribe without a connection to the cloud, eliminating the concern about data theft, security, inappropriate sharing with AI, etc. I am also looking into the transcription feature that
