Hello. I used the following agency to rent an apartment last summer in
Sevilla, and had a wonderful experience.

    E-Mail: email@sevilla5.com
    Internet:
    http://www.sevilla5.com

I stayed at the apartment on Arfe Street, which is five minutes from the
    AGI.

    Dear Neteros,

Anyone interested in a nice, inexpensive room for a short stint at the AGI, or even for a long stay, should contact:

    NELIDA LEON <nelidaleon2@yahoo.es>

The room is not far from the archive (10-15 minute walk) in the Triana neighborhood.

Get "Cambalache," a magazine that comes out every Thursday, I believe, and can be found at any kiosk. It contains lists of apartments/rooms to rent, as well as news about things that people are willing to sell or buy. As for "pensiones" or "hostales" in the area, there are scores of them, because the AGI is right at the tourist area of the city. I would recommend one that is a little away from the hustle and bustle: it is a 20 minute walk from the AGI, but it is clean, well-kept and reasonably priced. It is called "Hostal Galatea," off Calle Regina. It is very close to a market where you can buy fresh fruit and veggies.

    Good luck,

Dear Richard: One that seems very popular is that of Sra Carmela Moguel, Abades 24, 41004, Sevilla. I have not stayed there but several friends have and for 3,000 pesetas a night you have room, laundry, and copious meals. The price is comparable to the Escuela de Estudios Hispanoamericanos where you have only a minimal breakfast (where I stayed). Rooms can be found easily through the University where they are commonly posted. Goos luck,

    Dear Ricardo

I remember the HOSTAL ZAIDA, close to the AGI and very cheep (20 U$S per person/room with WC. No breakfast).

    Dear Martin Fleming,

You should contact the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid, which, as you know, is the French Institute for Advanced Spanish Studies in Spain.  There are always scientific or artistic members who are renting apartments in Madrid or Seville, or who know somebody who has a place to rent. Unfortunately you cannot stay at the Casa de Velazquez with an infant.

    The address is:

    Casa de Velazquez

    Attention Annie (Comptabilite)

    Calle Paul Guinard,

    Ciudad Universitaria

    28040-Madrid Spain

    Tel: 34-1-543-36-05

    Fax: 34-1-544-6870

Unless you can write directly in French, I would advise you to write in Spanish, since I believe that English is not well understood by the staff of the Casa.  These are good people, you may write on my behalf (Dr. Alain Saint-Saens), and they will help you as much as they can.  For additional information, you may call me in New Orleans, where I am listed in the White Pages.

    Good luck,

    Cordially,

In the Santa Cruz "barrio" there is an apartment-hotel which rents by the day, week, and month. Four months ago, the cost for one-bedroom was 7,000 pesetas/day or 85,000 pesetas/month (1 US dollar=120 pesetas, "poco mas o menos"). They are well located, right in the Plaza de los Venerables, very close to the Archive (=AGI). They have air-conditioning and washing machine. Some of them have access to the "azotea". There are a couple of parks for children around.

I do not think they have two-bedroom apartments. And I do not have their Fax-number with me. If you are interested I could walk by and ask for their fax number or other matters...

    Accommodation in Seville

Researchers looking for temporary accommodation in Seville may want to

consider a shared housing set-up (maximum three people) situated in the

centre of Seville, in the Barrio Santa Cruz, just a two-minute walk to

    the Archivo General de Indias.

The rooms available are in a large and bright furnished three-bedroom

apartment with a pleasant living-dining room (with television, mobile

phone for house use), fully-equipped kitchen, including a washing

machine, and one and a half bathrooms.  Bedding and towels are provided

as well as a weekly cleaning service.

Rooms are rented out to visiting historians, professors or other

professional people to ensure a quiet and comfortable ambiance for

    living and working.
