SDCEA has long been concerned, as are communities around the world about waste incinerators. Evidence from other countries and South Africa reveals that the medical waste incinerators are unhygenic and often emit toxic compounds. Other incinerators have been shown to disseminate mercury and other heavy metals and toxic compounds that are not healthy for surrounding communities.
